Does your company use a TOSHIBA phone system? If so, you may want to take note that Toshiba is winding down it’s Telecommunications Systems Division (TSD) effective immediately. Starting May 22, 2017, they will no longer be accepting dealer orders and no further inventory is being produced. More simply put, TOSHIBA will no longer be making telephone systems.
Toshiba isn’t alone in it’s struggles. Avaya, Nortel, Comdial and Vodavi are just a short list of others that have either had financial troubles, sold off or just closed their operations. The rise of Cloud technology, Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS), VOIP PBX (Voice over Internet Protocol) and SIP trunking have legacy PBX manufacturers struggling to compete.
What does this mean if you own TOSHIBA phones (or phones from these other manufacturers)? Toshiba will supply equipment after May 22nd until it is no longer available in their inventory. If your equipment is currently under warranty, they claim they will honor that warranty until the expiration date. If you are a VIPEdge customer they will honor that contract under it’s terms, until it’s expiration.
Basically, Toshiba is providing it’s end-users with the opportunity to make a smooth transition away from their products. Take advantage of this time!
What can you do to reduce or eliminate the impact this has on your business? Take action now. Use this as an opportunity to reassess your communication needs and make your company or organization more cost-effective and productive. Today’s technology is easier to use, more efficient and provides a solid return on investment over more traditional solutions.
Here is a quick list of things to ask yourself and your team as you consider your next steps for business communication.
- How does your staff communicate today? Is it different than five years ago? Is it being done as cost effectively as possible?
- How many of your staff members work remotely? How many could?
- Is your staff using desk phones, mobile devices, text, email, IM?
- How do you manage your communications equipment and the integration between these devices?
